Since
1948, the Helen Ross McNabb Center has compassionately provided
quality mental health care services to children, adults, and families
in Knoxville and East Tennessee. Today it is a regional, not-for-profit
integrated system providing mental health, substance abuse, and social
services in 20 counties. Teams of psychiatrists, master's level clinicians,
nurses, and bachelor's level professionals are available to provide comprehensive,
individualized treatment to each client and family. |

Founded by Mrs. McNabb, it was the first community mental health center in Tennessee. First opened as an outpatient diagnostic and treatment facility for children, the Center added adult services in 1955. A merger with DRI (Detoxification Rehabilitation Institute) in 1997 enabled the Center to expand substance abuse and dual diagnosis (co-existing mental health and substance abuse problems) services. Throughout its history the Center's goal has been to provide quality services, guided by an understanding of the community and its needs. Today's challenges are met with the same pioneering spirit shown by Helen Ross McNabb in 1948. Our Mission Our mission is simple - to improve the lives of the people we serve. We will succeed by embracing the differences among staff and people in the community, by encouraging the creativity of our staff, by listening to our customers, by maintaining a well-trained and highly motivated staff, by surpassing the standards of excellence in all that we do, and by practicing fiscal responsibility and programmatic innovation. Quality of Care The Center is accredited by CARF (the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) for its mental health programs (case management and outpatient), psychosocial rehabilitation programs, alcohol and other drug programs (adult detoxification, residential, and outpatient treatment; children and adolescent prevention, residential, and outpatient treatment), and employment services programs. This represents the highest level of accreditation awarded by CARF, and means that the Center has met internationally recognized standards of quality in providing outcomes-driven programs and services. It is also an indication of both the organization's and the staff's dedication and commitment to improving the quality of the lives of the people receiving services. To maintain the highest level of care, the Center has its own internal quality assurance programs.
