Foster Care Services
The Tennessee Regional Alternative Care Environments (TRACES) Foster Care program is a therapeutic foster care program operated in conjunction with the Tennessee Department of Children's Services.
These children have been removed from their homes (and if they do not have appropriate relatives in their own family) are placed in protective custody of the state due to abuse, neglect, unruliness or delinquency. The program recruits and trains caring, structured foster homes to help these children who enter custody with a multitude of problems and needs.
Great care is taken to match these children with an appropriate family to provide the child with a positive family experience. The program provides an array of wrap-around services for the children to help them reach their treatment goals.

The state looks for providers, like the Helen Ross McNabb Center, to take care of these children in loving, trained, foster homes. We train our families in a fun, welcoming atmosphere. After a family completes the required training and the home study and background checks are complete, the home is ready for a foster child or children. Find out more about our foster parent training requirements here.
Foster parents must meet several requirements besides completing a training program. To find out if you are qualified to be a foster parent, take a quick self assessment here.
The children stay in the home until they either join their family of origin or are adopted. Not every family has to be an adoptive home, they can just foster. If you are interested in adoption, learn more here.
A Helen Ross McNabb foster care specialist is a trained case manager with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in the children and families field. The specialist will help the foster family with behavioral interventions if the children exhibit any behavioral issues. To learn more about the support you will get as a foster parent, click here.
